USMS Profile

Alana is a longtime competitive swimmer from Massachusetts who has achieved substantial success in both pool and open water events, making significant contributions to local and national Masters and open water swimming communities.

Alana began swimming at age 10 with the Boys & Girls Club of Taunton. She competed for Taunton High School and later Worcester Polytechnic Institute (NCAA Divison III). Captain of the WPI team for two years, she held four individual and five relay school records upon graduation and won the Patricia A. Graham Sportsmanship Award, given to an outstanding senior woman athlete.

Alana transitioned to Masters Swimming after college, competing with Worcester Area Masters and Charles River Aquatic Masters before joining the Boston University Masters Swimming program. She started open water swimming after college through a brief stint in triathlon before diving into marathon distrances with a 10K swim in 2016.

A dedicated volunteer, Alana helps grow the sport in New England by serving as vice president and treasurer of the nonprofit, volunteer-run Massachusetts Open Water Swimming Association. In these financial and business operations roles, she helps organize several annual events, including the flagship Boston Light Swim — an 8-mile race across Boston Harbor that was first staged in 1907.

Alana is also a USMS Level 3 coach, with more than eight years of coaching experience across WPI, WAM, CRM, and the Belmont Aquatic and Commonwealth Swimming age-group teams.

Professionally, Alana works as a data analyst. She and her husband recently welcomed their first child, a daughter. Outside of swimming and motherhood, she is a multi-instrumentalist who enjoys playing the trombone, guitar, piano, and ukulele. Her other personal interests include cycling, traveling, and walking her dog, Maple.
